Africa’s energy demand is rising rapidly, driven by population growth, urbanisation, and economic development. Despite these dynamics, much of the continent still grapples with unreliable electricity access and heavy reliance on fossil fuels. Renewable energy offers a sustainable path forward, addressing energy deficits while minimising environmental impact.
At the forefront of this transformation is ACES Renewables, a company committed to developing and delivering practical, efficient clean energy solutions across Africa.
With a presence in five countries and expertise in solar, battery storage, biomass, and biogas technologies, ACES Renewables is powering progress and lighting the way to a brighter, greener future with projects in operations and developing a strong pipeline of projects across the region.
ACES Renewables’ Vision and Mission
ACES Renewables embodies a clear vision: to be a leading provider of renewable energy solutions across Africa. Their mission revolves around crafting practical and efficient renewable energy projects that drive sustainable development, foster economic growth, and improve quality of life. By leveraging their deep expertise and innovative approach, ACES is creating a platform that encourages ongoing optimisation and innovation in clean energy systems.
The company’s strategic focus on solar, battery storage, biomass, and biogas projects aligns with their goal of positively influencing the energy landscape. These technologies are pivotal for diversifying energy sources, enhancing grid stability, and reducing dependence on fossil fuels. ACES’ commitment to sustainability and shareholder value further underscores their role as a dynamic utility investment and management company, tackling Africa’s energy challenges head-on.
Current Challenges in Africa's Energy Sector
Africa’s energy sector faces significant hurdles. Over 600 million people on the continent lack access to electricity, while existing infrastructure often struggles to meet demand. Dependency on fossil fuels exacerbates environmental concerns, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions and climate change. Additionally, the high cost of traditional energy systems and inconsistent energy supply hinder economic growth and industrial development.
Renewable energy provides a viable solution to these challenges. Solar, battery storage, biomass, and biogas systems offer affordable, scalable, and environmentally friendly alternatives to conventional energy sources. However, successful implementation requires overcoming barriers such as capital intensity, infrastructure limitations, and regulatory complexities, governments vision and lack of framework. This is where ACES Renewables’ strategic expertise and partnerships make a critical difference.
How ACES Is Leading Change
ACES Renewables is actively addressing Africa’s energy challenges through a portfolio of impactful projects:
- Tana Biogas Solar Hybrid Power Plant (Kenya): This innovative project combines biogas and solar technologies to generate 20 MW of power.
- Unergy Battery Energy Storage System (Uganda): This project showcases ACES’ expertise in energy storage systems. By addressing regulatory requirements and finalising feasibility studies, ACES is paving the way for sustainable energy production in Uganda.
- Cullinan Solar PV Power Plant (South Africa): This 153 MW solar project exemplifies ACES’ strategic focus on large-scale renewable energy. With permitting in the final stages and agreements secured with off-takers, the project is on track for FC in mid-2025 and COD in 2026. It underscores ACES’ dedication to reducing carbon emissions and boosting economic growth.
- Ravenna Solar Power Plant (South Africa): Although smaller in scale (10 MW), this project highlights ACES’ agility in addressing diverse energy demands. Developing the project for a specific energy consumer. Scheduled for COD in 2025, the plant reinforces local energy resilience and demonstrates ACES’ commitment to scalable solutions.
- Zambia Solar PV Power Plant : The project has secured an off-take agreement with a mine operating across Africa for the entire 25MW. The project is the first in a range of development across the sector as the mining industry prepares for demand and growth in the minerals sector , positioning ACES to take advantage of the demand for clean energy
Through these projects, ACES Renewables is not only expanding access to clean energy but also fostering innovation and economic empowerment across Africa.
ACES Renewables stands at the forefront of Africa’s energy transformation, combining technical expertise, innovative approaches, and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.
